This is the beginnings of what will eventually become the web site for Friends of Nevada Libraries.  This organization is not yet 'put together', but a few friends of Friends saw a need for such a group and have agreed to begin the process.

Special thanks goes to Friends of Libraries in Oklahoma, especially Julia Brady Ratliff.  After discussing our intent with her, I am now unable to NOT continue with our endeavor.  Julia is very energetic and it rubbed off.  Thanks Julia.

Do not hesitate to offer a critical review of the following documents.  I can handle it!!  Thanks.

Eventually, local Friends Organizations may want to consider joining Friends of Libraries, USA (FOLUSA). FOLUSA has a variety of membership types and levels. Complete instructions and contact information is on the website at http://folusa.org/

Notes regarding #7 above.
(1) If it is anticipated that gross revenue from ANY AND ALL sources will be over $5,000 for the organization's fiscal year, IRS Form 1023 should be filed at the same time as IRS Form SS4.

(2) You have up to 27 months to file IRS Form 1023; however, it must be filed immediately anytime gross revenue from ANY AND ALL sources is over $5,000 for the organization's fiscal year.

(3) Fees associated with filing IRS Form 1023:
If gross revenue is under $10,000, fee is $300
If gross revenue is over $10,000, fee is $750

(4) Annual reporting to the IRS at the end of the corporation fiscal year:  (No fee)
     (A) If gross receipts are under $25,000 file on-line at http://www.irs.gov/EO, search for form 990-N and file on-line.
     (B) If gross receipts are over $25,000 OR if one contribution is over $5000, file form 990 or 990EZ.  Obtain forms on-line.
     (C) Annual reporting is required even if Form 1023 has not yet been submitted or approved.

Now for a reality check.

As you can see from the above, it takes money to get started----approximately $414.  Add $40 to that for administrative costs, and we're looking at about $500.

I am sure that we can eventually obtain funding from various grant sources; however, we have to have our 501(c)(3) status first.  That means we have to come up with $500 soon.  There's one of two ways this is going to happen:

Obviously, the first choice is the best!!  However, that probably won't happen, which means we'll have to move on to choice #2.  $80-100 from each group would be required.

Another option is to create a group of 'charter' members, each donating at least $25.  This would at least help us get started.

Once we are 501(c)(3) and the grant money rolls in, we may be able to reimburse the Friends groups that made the initial contribution.  We'll have to wait and see how it goes.

PLEASE SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE ABOVE.
Send me (Ron Hughes) your thoughts and opinions and I'll get them to everyone else.  Ron
