Our Volunteers
In addition to the financial support provided to the District, members of Friends contribute hundreds of volunteer hours weekly. The programming and services of the District are greatly enhanced by the participation of our volunteers.Opportunities
You may have already found your niche as a volunteer. Or, you may still be looking for a task or project just right for you!!If you can match your expertise, interests and time to a library need, please consider doing so. Here's a sampling:
Book sales
The Friends of Henderson Libraries holds book sales monthly, alternating among the Paseo Verde, Malcolm and Gibson Libraries. The sales are held inside, and shifts vary from two to four hours. You can assist on sale day, or volunteer a few hours a week in the sorting of donated books.
Adopt a shelf
Make yourself responsible to ensuring that the books on 'your' shelf are in order. You can pick your shelf and time for checking it. The goal is ambitious---we want to have all shelves in all libraries adopted. Forms for this program are available at the Circulation Desk in each library.
Screen Videos
When video tapes and DVDs are donated to the library, they have to be screened for appropriateness and condition before they are placed into circulation. You can view tapes at home or in the library. Check them out at the Circulation Desk at the Paseo Verde Library.
Prepare Books
Volunteers are always essential in Acquisition and Bibliographic Services to prepare new and donated materials for all libraries. Some materials need to be covered and all need to be entered into the catalog system before they are placed on the shelves.
Information Technology
Volunteers with computer experience are needed to service equipment, give technical assistance, and teach classes.
Special Tasks
Join a cadre of volunteers who are willing to be called for service on short notice.
